Cross the border without doubling back
A one-way rental lets you pick up a vehicle in Kigali and drop it off in Uganda — at Kampala, Entebbe, or near a park gate such as Bwindi or Queen Elizabeth National Park — instead of driving the same route twice. This is the most efficient way to combine Rwanda’s gorilla trekking and national parks with a Uganda itinerary.

How it works
- Tell us your pickup location in Rwanda, your intended drop-off point in Uganda, and your travel dates.
- We confirm vehicle availability and prepare the cross-border permit and COMESA insurance documentation required to take a Rwandan-registered vehicle into Uganda.
- You collect the vehicle in Kigali (or at the airport) with all paperwork ready for the border post.
- Drop the vehicle off at the agreed location in Uganda — our partner team handles the return logistics.
Vehicles suited to one-way trips
4×4 Land Cruisers (Prado, VX, or Extended) are recommended for cross-border routes, since road conditions vary and a higher-clearance vehicle gives more flexibility at both ends of the trip. See the full 4×4 car rental Rwanda lineup, or ask about combining this with a rooftop tent for camping en route.
Self-drive or driver-guide
One-way trips are available self-drive or with a professional driver-guide who can handle the border crossing process directly, which many travelers prefer for a first cross-border trip.
Frequently asked questions
What documents do I need to cross from Rwanda into Uganda?
You’ll need your passport, driving licence (plus IDP recommended), the vehicle’s cross-border permit, and COMESA Yellow Card insurance — all arranged by us in advance for one-way rentals.
Is there an extra charge for one-way rentals?
Yes, a one-way/relocation fee applies depending on the drop-off location. This is included in your quote so there are no surprises at return.
How far in advance should I book a cross-border rental?
We recommend at least 5-7 days’ notice so permits and insurance documentation can be prepared before your pickup date.
