A Kigali car rental company built by people who know the roads

Rent a Car Kigali was started by a team with deep roots in Rwanda’s travel and transport industry. We’ve driven the road to Musanze more times than we can count. We know what the laterite tracks around Volcanoes NP look like after three days of rain. We know how long the Cyanika border crossing takes on a Tuesday morning versus a Friday afternoon. That knowledge is the difference between a car rental company that hands you keys and one that genuinely prepares you for the road ahead.

Our office is in Kigali’s city centre on KN 5 Rd. Our vehicles are serviced in Kigali and deployed from Kigali International Airport. We work directly with the clients who book from us — there are no intermediaries, no booking platform middlemen, and no call centre overseas. When you contact us, you reach the team that owns and operates the vehicles you’re renting.

How we work — what you can expect from us

The price we quote is the price you pay

Third-party liability insurance and unlimited mileage are included in every quoted rate. We do not add them at pickup. We do not have airport surcharges buried in the fine print. If a rate is $70/day, that is what it costs.

Vehicles are serviced before every rental

Every vehicle goes out with a full service check — oil, tyres, brakes, fluids, spare tyre, and a written condition report. The condition report protects you: it documents any existing marks before you drive, so you can’t be charged for damage you didn’t cause at return.

We brief every self-drive client before they leave

A 10-minute briefing before departure saves significant stress on the road. We cover the vehicle controls, the route, current road conditions for your specific itinerary, fuel station locations, and the 24/7 support number. Clients who skip the briefing and call us confused on a mountain road at 6am before a gorilla trek are why we insist on it.

24/7 support — a real number that answers

Our support line connects to the Kigali team — not an automated system, not a voicemail box. If you break down, get a flat tyre, or can’t find the park entrance at dusk, someone who knows the area answers your call.

We arrange the paperwork for cross-border trips in advance

Cross-border permits and COMESA Yellow Card insurance for Uganda (and Tanzania) are prepared before your pickup date — in the glovebox when you collect the vehicle. We brief you on the border crossing before you go. This is the part most Kigali rental operators skip because it takes time; we don’t skip it because the paperwork being wrong at the border ruins a trip.

Why travelers choose us over other Kigali car rental companies

  • Transparent pricing — every competitor quote we’ve seen adds insurance and mileage on top of the advertised rate. We don’t.
  • Local team, direct contact — you speak to the people who own and service the vehicles, not a booking agent.
  • Pre-trip briefing included — we go through the route, the vehicle and the road conditions with every client before departure.
  • Cross-border expertise — we’ve handled Rwanda-Uganda and Rwanda-Tanzania crossings many times. We know which border posts are fastest, what paperwork the officers check, and what to do if there’s a problem.
  • Fleet maintained to one standard — we don’t rent out vehicles we wouldn’t drive ourselves. If a vehicle needs workshop time, it comes off the active fleet.
  • No booking platform markup — you book directly with us. No middleman fees, no platform commission passed on to you.

About us — common questions

Are you based in Kigali?

Yes. Our office and fleet operations are based in Kigali — KN 5 Rd, Prince House Building, 2nd Floor, Office 5. Vehicles are collected at Kigali International Airport or delivered to your hotel in Kigali.

How long have you been operating?

We have been providing car rental services to tourists, NGOs, corporate clients and expats in Rwanda for several years. Our team has local knowledge of Rwanda’s roads, national parks and border crossings built through daily operations — not just research.

Do you work with travel agencies and tour operators?

Yes. We provide vehicles for travel agencies and tour operators arranging Rwanda trips for their clients. Trade rates and net pricing are available for registered operators. Contact us for trade enquiries →

Can I see the vehicles before I book?

Yes. If you are already in Kigali, you are welcome to visit our office and inspect the vehicle fleet before confirming. Contact us to arrange a viewing. For international clients, we can provide photos and condition information for specific vehicles on request.

What happens if the vehicle is not available when I arrive?

We confirm vehicle availability before accepting a booking and hold the vehicle for your dates once the deposit is received. In the unlikely event of a mechanical issue that takes a vehicle off the fleet before your rental, we will substitute an equivalent or higher vehicle at the same rate, or offer a full refund.

Do you have reviews I can read?

Yes. We have Google reviews from clients — search “Rent a Car Kigali” on Google Maps to read them. We also appear on TripAdvisor. If you have any questions about a specific review, ask us directly.
