Why combine Kigali with Bwindi

  • Double gorilla trekking — trek mountain gorillas at Volcanoes NP in Rwanda ($1,500 permit) then trek again at Bwindi ($800 Uganda permit). Two different habituated families, two completely different experiences.
  • Short driving distance — Kigali to Bwindi is under 5 hours total. No flying required, no major overnight transit.
  • Flying into Kigali is often cheaper — KGL frequently has better international connections and pricing than Entebbe for travelers starting in Rwanda.
  • Combine with Uganda’s other parks — after Bwindi, continue to Queen Elizabeth NP, Kibale Forest or Lake Bunyonyi. Drop the vehicle near Entebbe for your flight home.
